Islamabad [Pakistan], March 17 (ANI): The concepts of federalism and parliamentary democracy in Pakistan are eroding with each passing day, said SenatorMian Raza Rabbani.
While expressing these views at a national conference on Making Pakistani federalism work: lessons from the government COVID-19 response , Rabbani said that that it is very unfortunate that efforts are being made to replace the current federal parliamentary democratic system with a quasi-presidential system, reported Dawn.
He also remarked that internal and external conditions are not conducive for such experimentation.
The Pakistani Senator stressed the need for strengthening the existing federal coordination mechanisms under the Council of Common Interests (CCI) instead of creating a new extra-constitutional forum such as the National Comma ....

Nebraska senators debate extending student journalists' protections

Sophia Walsh learned in her newspaper class that a classmate had stolen a Confederate flag from the pickup truck of another classmate at North Platte High School.
That the police had charged the student who took the flag with a crime was news enough to make it into the pages of The Bulldogger student newspaper, Walsh said.
Then student journalists started to dig deeper, exploring why North Platte students were flying the flag regularly, the effect it had on students of color in the school, and how race, racism and education intersected in their western Nebraska community.

CAL THOMAS: Now come the taxes

As mentioned in previous columns, the federal government does not lack revenue; it lacks self-control when it comes to spending. Some Democrats are even talking about the return of earmarks, those add-ons to legislation that Republicans voted to ban when they had a House majority. Democrats think they can revive them to tempt GOP members into going along with their spending plans.
Unrestrained by a Republican majority in either house of Congress, or a Republican president, Democrats have the votes to push legislation through, at least until the 2022 election, showing little concern for voter anger. It doesn’t matter to them that the Trump tax cuts produced tremendous economic results for businesses that then create jobs and hire workers. Democrats cling to the false notion that more spending and higher taxes solve everything. If it did, would it not have by now? ....

SGA debates bill further codifying Senate staff, improved lighting for campus safety

Ellie Shafer | Contributor
Senators Ciera Thomas, Allison Fine, Bryson Henriott and Will Harris authored the bill to further codify the Senate staff with an intent to clearly explain the purposes of the Senate staff positions and make the Legislative Branch more effective.
Senators Hadden Powell, Gaby Gagliano and Mary Lyn Dyer each spoke against the bill, expressing concerns that the piece of legislation needs to be revised before it can be passed, fearing the piece would limit the Senate staff to the roles described in the bill.
Senators Will Curvin, Kendall Henry and Connor Green, however, openly spoke and debated in favor of the bill, saying that codifying staff positions would increase student’s accessibility to SGA. ....
