Hutchinson Community Foundation accepting applications for committee

Hutchinson Community Foundation seeks volunteers with a love of Reno County to serve on its 2021 Changemakers at Work Grants Committee.
The committee is responsible for reviewing and awarding Changemakers at Work (formerly Make It Greater) grant proposals from area nonprofit organizations. Changemakers at Work Grants range from $200 to $2,500 and are awarded each spring to projects that bring people together, build on the community s assets, and enhance community pride and identity.

The teen made his debut as the Nutcracker Prince with “The Nutcracker,” produced by Wichita’s Metropolitan Ballet, which can be streamed online now.
“I love ballet,” Miller said. “And it has been a hard year for dancing [because of the pandemic], so it was extra great to be able to have a Nutcracker, even without a live audience.”
For 2020, Metropolitan Ballet produced “The Nutcracker” for viewers in a digital, on-demand format. The cast recorded the production on Dec. 19 at Century II Concert Hall, and the production can be streamed online any time between now and noon Dec. 27. ....

Reno County Veterans Memorial now features 14,000 names on newly-hung granite panels
After seven years of hard work, the Reno County Veterans Memorial is nearly complete.
A committee of community representatives jumped at the chance to devote a plot of land along Highway 50, at 209 W Des Monies Ave. in South Hutchinson, to memorializing area veterans.
On Thursday, the group watched as 56 granite slabs were hung, bearing 14,000 names of veterans in all U.S. military branches from the Civil War to the present with ties to the county.
It s been seven years in the process, said committee member Kelly Danyluk.
There s been lots of fundraising and planning, he said. ....
