Record Courier Sentencing was delayed for two people who admitted burglarizing a half-dozen vehicles last May at trailheads in Lake Tahoe and Jacks Valley. Harvis Berry, 35, appeared remotely in Douglas County District Court on Tuesday from a hospital bed where he was being treated. District Judge Tod Young said it was clear that Berry’s sentencing hearing had to be delayed and set a May 18 hearing. Berry is facing charges of principal to burglary and fraudulent use of a credit card. Carolyn Maxine Brinkman, 33, was also in Douglas County District Court on Tuesday, but her sentencing was delayed until May 25. ....
 A Douglas County Sheriffâs sergeant, who was shot in the face during a Dec. 20, 2020, traffic stop in Gardnerville, said he wanted the shooter sentenced to the maximum to prevent future victims. Sgt. John and Lauren Lenz both took the stand on Monday to seek the maximum sentence against shooter Nicholas Berreman. Lenz said bullet fragments from the shooting remain lodged in his spine and may affect his long-term health. Nicholas Berreman Nicholas Berreman, 23, pleaded guilty to attempted murder with a deadly weapon, battery with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person in connection with the shooting of Sgt. John Lenz. The attempted murder charge carries an enhancement that could double the 2-20-year sentence Berreman is facing. Under Nevada law that sentence must be served consecutively to the underlying sentence. The battery with a deadly weapon charge carries a 2-15-year sentence while the possession charge carries a 1-6-year sentence. ....
