Weightless: A New Ammo Could Change How U.S. Soldiers Fight

Weightless: A New Ammo Could Change How U.S. Soldiers Fight
After the announcement and subsequent cancellation of the U.S. Army’s 7.62 Interim Combat Service Rifle project, many were left wondering what the U.S. Army’s actual plan was for a future service rifle.
Here's What You Need to Remember: Overall, CTA in small arms is a promising technology that could significantly reduce the weight that a soldier carries into battle, while also providing other minor benefits. However, it’s unclear whether this is enough of an improvement for the U.S. military to adopt it.
Recently, much attention has been focused on the state of the U.S. military’s arsenal of small arms. After the announcement and subsequent cancellation of the U.S. Army’s 7.62 Interim Combat Service Rifle project, many were left wondering what the U.S. Army’s actual plan was for a future service rifle. One possible answer was demonstrated at the AUSA 2017 by Textron: the use of Cased Telescoped Ammunition (CTA) technology in small arms.

U.S.A. -(AmmoLand.com)- Met with a week of fluctuating climate conditions, the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) hosted the 2021 Talladega Spring Classic, March 16-21, at the CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park in Alabama. Over 400 rifle and pistol entries flowed throughout the 500-acres of the facility, logging a successful turnout to launch the CMP’s spring schedule.
The shifting outdoor atmosphere kept guests on their toes, with temperatures dropping to the point of chilling frost on some mornings then warming into the 60’s later on. Luckily, the unpredictable elements didn’t keep visitors from getting back to CMP’s full lineup of matches – a mix of longtime favorites along with fresh events to challenge both experienced and beginning marksmen.

MUMBAI: Two days after returning from leave, a 22-year-old Navy sailor was found dead with a bullet wound on head onboard the Brahmaputra-class frigate, INS Betwa, that was anchored at Naval Dock early on Sunday. His service rifle was found near his body. Colaba police have filed an accidental death report. They suspect it to be a case of suicide, though no note has been found.
After returning from his leave, Ramesh Choudhary was posted as an electrical artificer (Power) 5 on the warship that was anchored at the Lion’s Gate for the last six days. Sources said that his colleagues did not notice anything amiss in his behaviour. On Sunday morning, when Choudhary did not turn up for attendance, his colleagues looked for him and found him in a cabin with a bullet injury, said a police officer. His rifle was lying next to him, he added. The colleagues informed Colaba police and Choudhary was taken to J J Hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

Mike Merritt, 61, and his son, Jacob, 30, of Annapolis, Maryland, achieved a rare feat in the marksmanship world – earning consecutive Distinguished Badge numbers.
“I’m not sure that’s ever happened with a family before,” said Christina Roguski, Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) competition program coordinator and a mediator of the Distinguished Badge Program.
During the summers, the Merritts head to the Camp Perry National Guard Training Facility in Port Clinton to take part in the pistol series of events at the famed National Matches.
