Bay Area Reporter :: Out men will help redraw San Francisco's political map

Two out men will have a hand in reconfiguring San Francisco s political map as members of the city s decennial redistricting task force. Their work will redraw the boundaries for the city s 11 supervisorial districts ahead of the fall races next year for the even-numbered seats.
Another member of the LGBTQ community could join the 2021-2022 Redistricting Task Force depending on whom Mayor London Breed appoints to three of its nine seats. She has until July 31 to announce her trio of picks to the panel, which is expected to begin meeting in August.
It has until April 15 to complete its work reshaping the boundaries for the supervisor districts. A separate state body will redraw the city s two Assembly districts and one state Senate seat, as well as the two congressional districts that currently include parts of San Francisco. ....

SAN FRANCISCO - Leaders with San Francisco s Asian and Pacific Islander communities on Wednesday voiced support for a proposed 100 percent affordable housing development in the Sunset District, which would be the first of its kind in the neighborhood.
The proposal at 2550 Irving St. would be seven stories with up to 100 units, consisting of studios, one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom apartments.
At least 40 percent of the units would be set aside for Sunset residents.
The support comes as the Board of Supervisors Budget and Finance Committee on Wednesday is set to approve a $14 million loan agreement with the Mayor s Office of Housing and Community Development and the Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation to acquire the property and fund pre-development. The funding would come from November 2019 s Proposition A, a voter-approved hous ....

The Pandemic And Racist Attacks Are Devastating America s Chinatowns
The coronavirus pandemic and a rise in hate crimes against Asian Americans have significantly impacted the economies and cultural fabric of Chinatowns around the country, and are gravely harming the vitality of some of them, though rallying efforts are underway.
While racism is nothing new for Asian Americans, who have historically been the victims of the racialization of disease in the U.S., the length and intensity of this pandemic has fueled an economic disaster that is increasingly posing an existential threat to Asian American Pacific Islander neighborhoods.
Occurring parallel to a pandemic that has claimed 582,296 lives in the U.S., according to the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center, the pandemic itself has disproportionately impacted Asian Americans in San Francisco, with the demographic accounting for 13.7% of the cases but also 52% of the de ....
