New Bedford companies sue port authority, city over North Terminal


NEW BEDFORD  Marine Hydraulics and Nordic Fisheries are suing the New Bedford Port Authority and City of New Bedford for allegedly breaching a 99-year lease contract and misleading the companies regarding the North Terminal expansion project.
Nordic Fisheries bought Marine Hydraulics assets and lease in 2015. Both companies filed the lawsuit on Jan. 27 in Bristol County Superior Court.
Who are the companies suing New Bedford?
Marine Hydraulics, a steel fabrication and machinery repair and maintenance company, is located on Herman Melville Boulevard and sits in the North Terminal. Nordic Fisheries co-owns Eastern Fisheries, a scallop fishing company located on Hervey Tichon Avenue just south of the terminal.  ....

chief product and strategy officer at Galvanize, a Vancouver-based compliance technology company. Among the concerns is that individuals who run compliance programs would have a financial incentive to report problems to the government rather than through internal channels, Mr. Zitting said.
If enacted, the program would offer financial awards to tipsters who voluntarily provide original information on possible violations of the Bank Secrecy Act to the Treasury or Justice departments. Monetary awards could be granted when tips lead to successful enforcement actions and monetary sanctions exceeding $1 million. A tipster could receive up to 30% of the penalties recovered. ....
