Devocion Coffee is betting on a Dumbo comeback
Devocion, the beloved Brooklyn-based coffee roaster, is gearing up to open a coffee shop in Dumbo next year. The coffee roaster with three locations in Brooklyn and Manhattan has signed a lease for a 1,400-square-foot space in the pandemic-stricken neighborhood, located at the corner of Jay and York streets, across from the York Street subway station. The coffee shop is slated to open in spring 2022, according to a spokesperson with the company.
It’s the latest in a series of openings announcements for Dumbo, a neighborhood where restaurants have been hampered not just by lower foot traffic due to the pandemic, but also by ongoing construction projects that can obscure businesses and make the neighborhood harder to navigate for tourists. Still, some restaurants and food businesses are betting on a Dumbo comeback. Cult-favorite brewery Evil Twin plans to open its second taproom in the neighborhood this year, while Tsuta — the acclaimed Tokyo-founded ramen shop — is opening its first New York outpost at 20 Old Fulton Street this summer. Last week, the Time Out Market New York food hall announced it would soon reopen since closing in December.

Vegan Restaurateur Ravi DeRossi Opens Three NYC Restaurants on the Same Day

On Valentine’s Day, vegan restaurateur Ravi DeRossi will open three new restaurants in New York City for special ticketed dinner events. Under his vegan restaurant and bar company Overthrow Hospitality, DeRossi will launch vegan Southern and soul food concept Cadence, which on Valentine’s Day will offer a multi-course selection of dishes from Chef Shenarri Greens, including palm cakes, jerk mac and cheese, and Southern fried lasagna, along with wine from Black-owned wineries. Vegan Mexican concept Etérea from Chef Xila Caudillo will offer a multi-course dinner with dishes such as Corn Rib Elote, tamales, and cauliflower rancheros, along with a tequila-and-mezcal-driven cocktail menu. And lastly, vegan pasta bar Soda Club will offer a multi-course pasta-tasting menu by Chef Amira Gharib and sparkling wine on Valentine’s Day. On the same day, New York City plans to reopen indoor dining at 25 percent capacity, so the ticketed events will occur indoors.
