US surgeon general praises BAPS charities for turning its temples into vaccination centres
WASHINGTON, May 8: US Surgeon General Dr Vivek Murthy has praised BAPS Charities, an Indian-American organisation, for turning its temples into COVID-19 vaccination centres.
BAPS has more than 100 centres across the US and it has been involved in major charity work and social service.
“I want to highlight BAPS Charities, a Hindu-American organization that has turned its temples into vaccination centres,” Murthy told reporters at a White House news conference on Friday.
“For elderly members of these temples, it’s been easier to get vaccinated at their own temple surrounded by trusted friends in familiar settings than it may have been for some of them to get vaccinated at an unfamiliar location,” Murthy said. (PTI) ....

The second wave of COVID-19 in India is a tragedy, US Surgeon General Dr Vivek Murthy has said, underlining the need for countries to help each other during the crisis.
If COVID-19 has taught us anything, it s that we need each other to get through this pandemic. As a world, we need each other in terms of countries to step up to help make sure that the world has an adequate supply of vaccine, to ensure people have treatments available, supply of PPE because the threat of COVID in any part of the world is ultimately a threat to every country, Indian-American Murthy told a news channel in an interview. ....

The United States plans to share 60 million doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines with the world as they become available, US Surgeon General Dr Vivek Murthy said here.
The AstraZeneca vaccine is widely in use around the world but has not yet been authorised by the US Food and Drug Administration.
