An influential Indian-American Democratic lawmaker on Monday welcomed the US government’s decision to provide material and healthcare help to India in its fight against a spike in COVID-19 cases, but said this is “no time for symbolism” or “lip service” and the Biden administration must act now.
India is struggling with a second wave of the pandemic with more than 3,00,000 daily new coronavirus cases being reported in the past few days, and hospitals in several states are reeling under a shortage of medical oxygen and beds.
“The Biden administration’s commitment that it will export raw materials for the Indian manufacturer of the Covishield vaccine is a welcome decision,” Indian American Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi said. ....

Every American 16 and older is now eligible for Covid vaccination


CDC officially expanded eligibility for COVID-19 vaccination to include any American 16 or older on Monday 
It coincides with the deadline to make all adults eligible, announced by President Biden earlier this month 
Hawaii, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island and Vermont were the last states to expand meet the deadline, expanding eligibility on Monday morning 
More than 50% of Americans 18 and older have now had at least one shot and nearly a third of adults are fully vaccinated 
The expansion is the latest push to get more Americans vaccinated as average daily infections linger just below 70,000. More than 730 people are still dying of COVID-19 a day in the U.S.  ....
