Indiana's Fulk Lake Where the "Beast of Busco" Allegedly Lives is For Sale

A lake in Indiana with a very interesting history is currently for sale. For a million dollars, you could own a lake, land, and possibly a beast. Located near Churubusco, a creature called the “Beast of Busco” (also known as “Oscar the Turtle”) apparently lurks in Fulk Lake.
According to numerous reports, the gigantic snapping turtle is said to live in the lake and that legend has been around since 1898 when a farmer named Oscar Fulk apparently saw the creature. Fifty years later, in 1948, two locals named Ora Blue and Charley Wilson allegedly saw the same creature while they were out fishing and they described it as being approximately 500 pounds. ....

A Tradition of Inclusivity: Chumley's Reopens with a New Look and a Nod to the Past

This story appears in the May 2021 issue of Town&Gown.
A week before the bar at 108 West College Avenue reopened on April 14, longtime manager Ellen Braun and bartender Justin Griffin took time from their preparations to let me take it all in. The bar is known for its craft cocktails, but Justin was nice enough to pour me a Firestone Walker Union Jack, a West Coast-style IPA. It hit the spot while we chatted. Ellen and Justin were excited to be soon welcoming back all their old customers and show them the new digs, and I could see why.
Gone is the old bottle shop that used to stand next to the entrance to Chumley’s. In its place is an open new front entrance area, which provides more space and visibility. Outside, a rainbow painted on the overhead sign is still there to highlight the bar’s inclusivity. ....

Twins have a very special bond, and some of them can’t help themselves but to go through all of life’s journeys together. Take Justin and Asher Griffin, of New Jersey, for example. Their father was Black and their mother was white, and as mixed-race children, they said they had a hard time fitting in. But from high school to college to law school to Biglaw, they were inseparable, following in each other’s footsteps sometimes at the same time, sometimes separated by a few years.
The Griffins both attended Princeton at the same time, but diverged before law school because Justin had been recruited by the Cleveland Indians to play minor league baseball. He gave himself two years to get into the major leagues, but later joined his brother Asher at Stanford Law. Justin started working as an associate for Quinn Emanuel after graduation in 2004, but Asher turned down his offer even though he’d interned there as a 1L. Instead, he ....

VPM News Photo Year-in-Review: Elections

.
In the midst of everything else, people across the state turned out to vote both in primary elections and the general election. Pres. Donald Trump lost to former Vice President Joe Biden, who will take office on Jan. 20, 2021.
Virginia voters overwhelmingly favored Biden, who prevailed by 10 points over Trump. And while the state has steadily trended blue, it still hosted visits by both candidates, and was a hotly-contested site for Democratic candidates during the primary earlier this year.
Although Trump lost his re-election bid, incumbents won at the state and city level, with Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney and sitting members of City Council winning re-election despite the summer of unrest. ....
