Dating back to 1927 and homeported in Rockland, the Schooner J.&E. Riggin is part of the largest fleet of working windjammers in the U.S.
A couple who are both licensed as ship captains are the new owners of a historic passenger schooner in Rockland, and are preparing to set sail this season under COVID-19 guidelines.
Captains Jocelyn Schmidt and Justin Schaefer bought the Schooner J.&E. Riggin, a 120-foot ship built in 1927, from Captains Jon Finger and Annie Mahle for an undisclosed price.
Finger and Mahle are a married couple who owned the boat for more than 20 years. Mahle was the vessel’s cook, has written several cookbooks, and her food and the Riggin have been featured in dozens of national media outlets.

ROCKLAND — The new owners of the historic Rockland-based schooner J. & E. Riggin are looking forward to their first season of taking passengers around the Midcoast on their own vessel, confident that people are looking for experiences outside.
But Capts. Justin Schaefer and Jocelyn Schmidt – who took ownership of the 120-foot Maine schooner on Feb. 5. – are no strangers to the local windjammer fleet or the Riggin.

Schaefer first stepped aboard the Riggin as a 13-year-old passenger when his parents booked a trip 15 years ago. A native of Long Island, New York, Schaefer said he had been on dinghies and 30- to-40-foot yachts but there was something different when he went aboard the Riggin.

Cedar Hill Students Build A Go Kart From Scratch
(CEDAR HILL, TEXAS) Cedar Hill High School Welding scholars Anthony Cavazos and Audrick Vega, along with their instructor, Donald Wilbert, participate in a sponsored project.

The scholars participated in building a Go-Kart from scratch using the materials donated to them by Justin Schaefer of Centralized Production, a Cedar Hill-based business.

This project has been in the works for two months, with the crew starting on the project in early December. However, the job has taken longer than expected due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

“With only two scholars in this class that has been coming consistently for only two hours a day, and sometimes they miss classes due to the pandemic,” Wilbert said.
