February 18, 2021 (New York, NY) The Academy of American Poets is pleased to announce the
2021 Poems in Translation Contest produced by Words Without Borders the digital magazine for international literature and a content partner of the Academy to spotlight groundbreaking work by poets and translators around the world. The four winning translated poems will be co-published in Poem-a-Day, the popular daily poetry series produced by the Academy of American Poets, and in Words Without Borders throughout September, which is National Translation Month. 
The contest is open to submissions of contemporary international poetry translated from other languages into English. The winning poems will be selected by award-winning poet ....

We’re pleased to announce the 2021 WWB Poems in Translation Contest spotlighting groundbreaking work by poets and translators around the world.

Readers react after pubs forced to throw away 87m pints of beer because of Covid-19


READERS have reacted after pubs were forced to throw away up to 87m pints of beer in the UK since the start of the pandemic, according to an industry body.
On February 8, The British Beer & Pub Association said the waste was the equivalent of £331m in sales, based on the average cost of a pint at £3.81.
Emma McClarkin, the association s chief executive, warned there would be a wave of closures and job losses in the sector unless the Government provides further financial support.
She has called for an extension to the VAT cut for the hospitality sector and a reduction to the UK s excessive beer duty. ....

Tiburon s Gertrud Parker founded Museum of Craft & Folk Art
Gertrud Valerie Grossman Parker, an artist and art collector who founded the Museum of Craft and Folk Art in San Francisco, died Jan. 10 of natural causes at her Tiburon home. She was 96.
Born Dec. 27, 1924, in Vienna, Austria, Mrs. Parker was the only child of Otto Grossman and Helen Pick Grossman.
Her maternal grandfather, Karl Pick, was a member of Austria’s elected parliament and the founder of a labor union for office workers. He was instrumental in establishing modern labor laws as well as workers’ housing and hospitals, according to an essay about Mrs. Parker by art scholar Amy Winter. A building and street in Vienna is named for him, said Mrs. Parker’s son Jonathan. ....
