American technology giants Cisco and Intel are among the thousands of organizations that have been affected by the supply chain attack targeting software vendor SolarWinds and, by extension, its customers.
The attack campaign, which was first revealed Sunday by FireEye, one of its victims, centers on the Orion network monitoring software from SolarWinds, a technology firm based in Austin, Texas, that until recently had a valuation of about $1 billion.

Two SolarWinds investors sold $280million in stock days before 'Russian cyber-attack' was revealed


On December 7,  investor firms Silver Lake and Thoma Bravo together sold $280million shares in SolarWinds
Six days later, the tech company was revealed to have been targeted in a major cyber attack that has so far effected six federal agencies
The software company provides vital computer network monitoring services to corporations and government agencies around the world
In March, its software update was compromised, allowing hackers to spy unnoticed on businesses and agencies for almost nine months

Investors Sold SolarWinds Stock Days Before Hack Was Disclosed

In a new wrinkle in the still-unfolding SolarWinds saga, it seems that some of the company’s top investors sold off close to a collective $280 million dollars in stock just days before the news of its role in a far-reaching federal cyberattack became public.

That’s according to a new Washington Post report that specifically calls out two investment firms Silver Lake and Thoma Bravo that together own a whopping 70% of all SolarWind’s stock and controlled six of the company’s board seats. The two firms sold off, respectively, $158 million dollars and $128 million dollars in shares on December 7 six days before SolarWinds disclosed that some of its monitoring products were subject to a “highly-sophisticated” attack at the hands of an unnamed nation state. ....
