CONCERNS have been raised about safety at a bridge near Winchester where a school bus crashed last September. Several children were hurt when a bus struck the railway bridge on Well House Lane; but now councillors have said they are worried about other road users. The area is now increasingly used by the public as the nearby Barton Farm/Kings Barton estate grows. A set of traffic lights should have been installed there on the completion of the 200th house and now the estate has nearly 300 being lived in of the proposed 2,000 homes. Cllr Jackie Porter told the Kings Barton Forum: It really does seem to need traffic lights system putting in. There are now nearly 300 houses. The Globe and Mail Deanne Gage Published January 22, 2021 Adriano Valentini/The Globe and Mail While women have made strides in increasing their representation on company boards of directors in Canada in recent years, it’s a different story for people of colour, notably Blacks. According to a report the Diversity Insitute at Ryerson University’s Ted Rogers School of Management published in August, 2020, Black executives are “deeply underrepresented” on boards and vastly outnumbered by other racialized groups. WINCHESTER Conservatives have criticised the Liberal Democrats over the emerging local plan. They say the Lib Dems have refused to “rule out” hugely controversial proposals for new towns at Royaldown between Oliver’s Battery and Hursley, and Micheldever Station. The Lib Dems say the inclusion of both proposals on a developers’ wish list does not indicate their support. The SHELAA lists must be regularly drawn up and both were on the list when the Conservatives controlled the city council until May 2020. Local authorities across the South were expecting to have to plan for far more housing after the Government published a white paper on planning last autumn. ....
The Globe and Mail Audrey Carleton Published January 15, 2021 CasarsaGuru/iStockPhoto / Getty Images The economic fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic has hit younger Canadians harder than other generations. That has required financial advisors to offer some unique solutions to help these clients weather the storm. A Carleton University School of Journalism and Communication poll conducted last May found that pandemic-related reductions in family income affected Canadians under 30 years of age more than any other generation, with those aged between 29 to 44 being the next most affected. Similarly, a report that global consulting firm Deloitte published in late June found that almost 30 per cent of Generation Z and a quarter of younger millennials, aged 25 to 30, lost their jobs or were placed on unpaid leave in April or May – larger proportions than any other age group. ....
