A GREENOCK councillor today hit out after it emerged that not one of the 25 apprentices recruited to work on the town s new £21m new health centre was local. Colin Jackson slammed contractors Hub West and bosses at NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde for failing to give opportunities for young people, especially those who live near the new-build in a neighbourhood which has the highest levels of poverty in the country. Recruitment of apprentices had been included on a list of community benefits trumpeted as part of the wider project. Health board chiefs insist attempts were made to find apprentices from Inverclyde but Mr Jackson says this is not good enough.
THE new £22m Greenock Health and Social Care Centre is opening its doors on Monday. The convenor of Inverclyde s Integrated Joint Board Councillor Jim Clocherty today hailed the new facility as bringing state-of-the-art healthcare right into the heart of the community. From next week onwards health and social care services are moving in to the building on the former Inverclyde Academy site. As well as GP practices serving a population of around 30,000 there will be a host of specific services based within the new health centre. Councillor Clocherty said: The new centre is fantastic and the building really has the wow factor.

English Sinfonia and the Chesham-based theatre hope that the residency will “bring the community together in music, reminding us of the beauty and joy in which the performing arts can surround us, at a time when people have been “starved” of the arts due to the pandemic. Chris Hopkins, the recently-appointed Principal Conductor of English Sinfonia, said: “I’m really excited to be returning to The Elgiva with English Sinfonia with this series of concerts signalling the start of a new residency.
