Outreach
Five Maine students earned honors for their creative research presentations at the 2021 National History Day virtual competition in June.
Maya Faulstich, an eighth grader from Frank H. Harrison Middle School in Yarmouth, earned second place in the National History Day (NHD) competition for her individual performance in “A Climate Carol,” which highlights the lasting influence of the 1950s–1970s “Keep America Beautiful” campaign on public views about litter and trash. Faulstich is the first Maine student to place in the Junior Individual Performance category; her performance can be viewed online.
Other Maine projects honored include an Outstanding Affiliate Award in the junior division for “Communicating with Children: How Fred Rogers Approached Tough Topics with Kids,” a documentary by Jillian Muller, Charlotte McGreevy, and Brittany Carrier from Buckfield Junior–Senior High School, and a first place in the senior division for the website “United States Involvement in the Vietnam War: The Impacts of Multimedia on Mainstream Opinion and U.S. Foreign Policy” by Uyen Nguyen from John Bapst Memorial High School in Bangor.

Retiring educators made rural school a home - The Ellsworth American

Retiring educators made rural school a home
AURORA — After 32 years of leading the Airline School, teaching principal Andy Bryan is letting go. So is his wife Beth Bryan, who came to “The Airline” in 1989 as a newly minted special education teacher. Andy tagged along as an ed tech but knew the school, as it knew him, from a stint as a long-term substitute the year before.
“I’m an ed tech success story,” Andy laughed.
The love they feel for the school shone from both as they recalled the more than three decades spent there. With a pre-K through eighth-grade student population that hovers around 45 students, it is the quintessential small rural school. But the rural Airline School of 1989 isn’t the same as the one in 2021.

John Bapst High School Is For Sale, Or Is It?

John Bapst High School Is For Sale, Or Is It?
Now this is a shocker.  Something totally unexpected and out of the blue.
Commuters on Broadway in Bangor this morning were surprised to see various for sale signs affixed to John Bapst Memorial High School on the way by.
Yes, those are for sale signs attached to the 93 year-old institution.
TSM
Now while we can't find a listing for John Bapst Memorial High School on Realtor.com or Zillow, we have to imagine the asking price is right up there, especially after going through an entire fund raising campaign and then building a brand new gym and fitness center on the campus recently.  The property's really been improved.
