A lot more people : Johnstown airport sees busiest May for passengers in decade

By Dave Sutor dsutor@tribdem.com More passengers flew in or out of John Murtha Johnstown-Cambria County Airport last month than during any other May since 2012. SkyWest Airlines carried 1,196 riders in May to or from either Washington Dulles International Airport or O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, according to general manager Samuel Faoliu. “I think a lot of people are starting to get the word out,” Faoliu said. “Initially, when the service started, a lot of people didn’t know that we have jet service coming into Johnstown. Word is getting out now. We have a lot more people.” SkyWest Airlines, operating as United Express and part of the United Airlines network, started flying out of the local airport in December, which was one of the worst times – in terms of cases and deaths – during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. As the spread of the coronavirus has slowed, the number of passengers using the Cambria County airport has increased.

Area airports get state funds | News, Sports, Jobs

Mirror staff reports HARRISBURG Three central Pennsylvania airports will receive grants from the state Department of Transportation, Gov. Tom Wolf announced Wednesday. The Bedford County Airport’s grant of $187,500 is the largest of the three grants. It will be used to replace the floor in its first unit hangar built in 1991. The Altoona-Blair County Airport and the John Murtha Johnstown-Cambria County Airports each will receive $100,000 grants. The Altoona-Blair County Airport’s grant is designated for construction of a corporate hangar, a pending project. The John Murtha Johnstown-Cambria County Airport is expected to use its grant for additional upgrades of its passenger terminal, including energy efficiencies.
