The amenities were anything but first class for these star crooners: 35 songbirds were discovered hidden inside hair curlers in a man’s clothing when he arrived this week at Kennedy International Airport in New York, the authorities said.

The man, Kevin Andre McKenzie of Guyana, is now facing a federal smuggling charge, according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, which said that he admitted that he had been offered $3,000 to bring the birds into the country from South America. ....

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (LEX 18) â Officials in Scott County are investigating after several vehicles and a house were hit by gunfire.
It happened around 2:00 a.m. Thursday on Avondale Avenue in Georgetown, not far from Georgetown College.
LEX 18 has learned that at least one person was inside the home that was hit, and has bullet holes around his computer.
Officers have found close to 40 rounds that have been fired.
No word on any injuries or suspect information so far. ....

A 36-year-old man was arrested at New York’s JFK International Airport after customs officials discovered he was trying to smuggle 35 live finches into the US so that those birds could be used in singing contests,

The complaint goes on to say he “concealed in his suit jacket and beneath his pants legs, with each bird hidden inside a hair curler”.
Authorities say that McKenzie claimed he was offered US$3000 per bird to transport them from the Guyanese capital of Georgetown to the US. He says he received US$500 before leaving, and was set to get the rest of the money after the delivery was made. ....

Customs and Border Patrol agents busted a man trying to smuggle 35 songbirds into the United States at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City. Officials said that agents searched
Kevin Andre McKenzie, 36, as he went through customs after arriving on a flight from Georgetown, Guyana.
During the search, the agents uncovered 35 finches stuffed inside hair curlers that were attached to the inside of his jacket and around his ankles. He was arrested and charged with unlawfully importing finches into the United States.
People who import birds from other countries must obtain a special permit, and the birds must be quarantined for 30 days to prevent the spread of disease. ....
