Two fires burning in Siskiyou County this week prompted evacuations in communities southeast and east of Yreka.  Both the Lava Fire and the Tennant Fire grew overnight, fueled by high temperatures and low humidity levels, dry fuels like brush and winds blowing through the valley. Those conditions expected to last throughout the week, rugged terrain and lack of water in the immediate vicinity are making firefighting efforts more difficult.

Gavin Newsom a short history lesson about her community Tuesday afternoon, she told him he shouldn t leave town without visiting the local gift shop and picking up a Weed t-shirt. Newsom came to Siskiyou County to tour the Lava Fire. He stopped at Weed High School, where smoke and flames can be seen on the horizon, to be briefed by fire and emergency management officials who are battling the massive wildfire, which grew to 17,591 acres, the U.S. Forest Service said Wednesday morning. The fire is 19% contained.
