The footage plays inside the downtown Minneapolis courtroom where Derek Chauvin is on trial, charged with murder. It shows George Floyd, a Black man, gasping for air under the White police officer’s knee.

Harvey Weinstein filed an appeal on Monday of his conviction on counts of sexual assault and rape, arguing that the judge made numerous errors that resulted in a rigged trial.
Weinstein’s attorney, Barry Kamins, argued that the judge should have excluded Juror 11, saying she could not have been impartial because she had written a novel that involved sexual exploitation by predatory older men. Kamins also argued that Justice James Burke improperly excluded testimony that could have been helpful to Weinstein.

He also challenged Burke’s decision to allow three women to testify about uncharged sexual assaults involving Weinstein. Such “prior bad acts” witnesses or “Molineux witnesses” in New York are also at the heart of comedian Bill Cosby’s appeal of his sexual assault conviction in Pennsylvania. ....

George Floyd's girlfriend describes what kind of person he was on fourth day of Derek Chauvin trial

(CNN) - Former Minneapolis Police officer Derek Chauvin spoke to his supervisor in a phone call shortly after kneeling on George Floyd for over 9 minutes to explain what happened on scene.
I was just going to call and have you come out to our scene here, Chauvin told Sgt. David Ploeger in a phone call captured on body camera footage and played in court Thursday. We just had to hold a guy down. He was going crazy. He wouldn t . he wouldn t go in the back of the squad
The video then cuts out. In testimony about the phone call, Ploeger said he believed Chauvin did not mention that he used force and Chauvin did not mention using his knee to hold someone down. ....

NEW ORLEANS, La. The Louisiana Supreme Court has given the green light for civil and criminal jury trials to resume on April 1.
The court on Feb. 11 put a moratorium on trials because of the rise in COVID-19 numbers. It was set to expire March 31.
Jury trials may resume when local courts have determined the proceedings can be held in a safe environment, with observance of safety protocols, including strict social distancing and mask mandates, the court stated Friday in a news release.
“It is imperative that members of the public feel safe in returning to our courthouses for jury duty. Serving as a juror is one of the most important civic responsibilities to be undertaken by our citizens, and it is the courts’ responsibility to ensure their safety,” stated Chief Justice John Weimer. “In a jury trial, jurors are the most important people in the courthouse because without them, our system of justice simply cannot work.
