The Munroe-Meyer Institute’s new $91 million home features cold- and warm-water pools, an indoor splash pad and state-of-the art physical therapy and virtual reality labs intended to provide the care needed by people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
But Dr. Karoly Mirnics, the institute’s director, said what he hopes to see in the faces of patients when they walk into the facility, which was dedicated Tuesday, is a sense of belonging.
“That they are part of this enterprise, that this enterprise was built for them and that it represents a promise that we will do our best to help them reach their potential,” Mirnics said. “And we are not there only for one day. We are there for a lifetime.” ....

Son of first Nebraskan lost to COVID had 'probably one of the hardest years of my life'

The state will begin scheduling those 16 and older starting April 5th.
For Nico Marasco, the last 12 months have been a challenge — he lost Ralph Marasco, his father, best friend and business partner, to COVID-19 on March 24, 2020.
It was the first COVID-19 death of a Nebraskan.
Many others would be lost to the virus — more than 500,000 across the U.S.
While the pace has slowed because of reduced spread and vaccinations, those losses continue to reverberate.
Nico Marasco first faced the challenge of finding a way to grieve and to properly celebrate his father’s life amid changing COVID-19 restrictions.
