Frontiers | Brain Differences Between Men and Women: Evidence From Deep Learning

Do men and women have different brains? Previous neuroimage studies sought to answer this question based on morphological difference between specific brain regions, reporting unfortunately conflicting results. In the present study, we aim to use a deep learning technique to address this challenge based on a large open-access, diffusion MRI database recorded from 1,065 young healthy subjects, including 490 men and 575 women healthy subjects. Different from commonly used 2D Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), we proposed a 3D CNN method with a newly designed structure including three hidden layers in cascade with a linear layer and a terminal Softmax layer. The Johnson & Johnson shot is teetering on the precipice of becoming America’s “dudes only” vaccine. On Tuesday, the CDC and FDA advised halting the vaccine’s nationwide rollout to investigate six cases of a rare blood-clotting disorder that’s occurred in people within about two weeks of receiving the vaccine all of them women under the age of 50. In an emergency meeting convened Wednesday by the CDC, experts raised the possibility of limiting its future use to males, reserving Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine, as some have unfortunately put it, for johnsons alone. ....

Women are suffering more than men with poorer sleep and higher levels of anxiety and depression during months of isolation due to Covid-19, says a new study published in Frontiers in Global Women s Health.
The study by University of Calgary researchers with the Hotchkiss Brain Institute sought to highlight the sex and gender differences during the coronavirus stay-home lifestyle, especially on how isolation impacts on women and men psychologically shaping their behavioural reactions to the pandemic.
Advocating targeted psychological intervention, the study examined data from 573 participants, 112 men and 459 women with a mean age of 25.9 years in Canada. The online survey was conducted between March 23 and June 7 of this year when schools and many businesses were closed, forcing people stay at home due to a general lock down in the country due to Covid-19 s rapid spread. ....
