April 19, 2021 By David Murray The Port of Kimmswick. Mo., official homeport of the Delta Queen, has completed its new boat landing dock, according to Neal Breitweiser, executive director of the Jefferson County Port Authority. The city board has voted to pave a street leading from downtown to the dock and to upgrade landscaping in the frontage. “There is a road already there that’s perfectly functional,” Breitweiser said, but the repaving anticipates a robust season of passenger vessel visits. The port has been in talks with several river cruise operators regarding adding historic Kimmswick as a stop on river cruises, he said, including American Queen and Gateway Arch Riverboat Cruises of St. Louis. Before the pandemic, Kimmswick was renowned as a picturesque river town and had several “destination” restaurants that drew diners from all over the region. ....
Feb 13, 2021 Ohio Southeast Economic Development, in partnership with Bricker and Eckler LLP, announced five communities in southeast Ohio were selected to participate in the Prepared Communities Program: The village of Greenfield in Highland County, the village of Chauncey in Athens County, the village of New Concord in Muskingum County, Jefferson County and Noble County. Facilitated by OhioSE and Bricker and Eckler LLP, the Prepared Communities Program recognizes the unique challenges faced within the southeast Ohio region and that there is no blanket approach that will work across the region’s diverse economic landscape. Through engaging with local communities, listening to their challenges, and providing resources and economic development tools, the program aims to prepare each community with a strategic plan that addresses their unique needs. ....
Jan 13, 2021 Our area’s economy got a boost last week when a local company announced plans for a multi-million dollar expansion. Bully Tools, which has called the Jefferson County Industrial Park home for the last 25 years, said on Jan. 5 it planned to make a $6.7 million investment that would include a 60,000-square-foot expansion, a project that officials estimate will create 30 new jobs. It’s growth that is needed to meet the demand for the firm’s line of tools. That catalog includes lawn and garden, farm, snow removal, home and other specialty long-handled tools. According to Mark Gracy, the company’s owner, Bully has seen double-digit sales growth that has averaged 14.5 percent during the past nine years. ....
