ABILENE - The next program in the Evenings at Ease series is at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13 that will feature guest speaker Shelly Cline who will be presenting about the rise of the Nazi party and propaganda. The event will be online via Google Meet.
Perhaps the biggest misconception of Nazi Germany is that the Nazi party came to power in a landslide victory and overwhelming wave of public support. The talk will look at the conditions of Germany in the 1920s and 1930s that made Nazism possible. It will also explore many examples of propaganda used by the Nazis to gain the support of the people for their new vision of Germany. ....

ABILENE The 2021 monthly Eisenhower Presidential Library & Museum Virtual Lunch & Learn series will start at noon Thursday, Jan. 28.
The free hourlong virtual program will host Pamela Riney-Kehrberg, who will discuss the primary aspects of farm children’s lives: work, school and play. Work was the most important element in children’s lives, followed by school and leisure. She will tell the story of the children whose labor made the continuation of their families’ enterprises possible.
Riney-Kehrberg is a distinguished professor of history at Iowa State University, where she has taught since 2000. She is the author of Rooted in Dust: Surviving Drought and Depression in Southwestern Kansas, Childhood on the Farm: Work, Play and Coming of Age in the Midwest, Always Plenty to Do: Growing Up on a Farm in the Long Ago and The Nature of Childhood: An Environmental ....

Ike's Book Talk Series to be held virtually, starts Jan. 12

ABILENE The first of Ike s 2021 virtual book club series is scheduled at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12.
The program is free and open to the public and will be offered online or by phone. Community members can join this program as if they were meeting friends in a cozy café or living room with a glass of wine, even if they have not read the book.
January s book selection is Heartland: A Memoir of Working Hard and Being Broke in the Richest Country on Earth by Sarah Smarsh. Her memoir was an instant New York Times bestseller and recipient of numerous awards.
