JONESBOROUGH- Douglas “Doug” Barnett, age 55, of Jonesborough, passed away on Friday, March 12, 2021, at Johnson City Medical Center.  A native of West Chester, PA, Doug is a son of the late Doyle Nate and Dorothy Mary (Willis) Barnett. He loved riding motorcycles, fishing, camping, playing pool and just being himself and helping people.  In addition to his parents, Doug is preceded in death by one sister, Shirley Barnett Pate.

Child poverty is a serious problem in Rochester, with approximately 50% of children in living below the poverty line. Current research points to poverty itself as the cause of negative outcomes for poor children, not associated problems such as poor nutrition, low levels of parental education, poor schools, or crime-ridden neighborhoods. Systemic racism in the form of wage, education, and housing inequities contributes directly to poverty and a direct assault on systemic racism needs to redress poverty as well as the causes of poverty.
