UNFPA, Norwegian Government support Vietnam in ending gender biased sex selection

The Norwegian Government and the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) have reaffirmed their strong commitment to cooperating with and supporting Vietnam at the national and sub-national levels in ending gender biased sex selection (GBSS), for a brighter future for the next generation of Vietnamese.
The joint affirmation was made by Norwegian Ambassador to Vietnam Grete Lochen and UNFPA Representative in Vietnam Naomi Kitahara at a working session on April 15 to discuss gender equality in Vietnam, focusing on gender-based violence and GBSS.
Addressing the session, the ambassador said that the top priority of the Norwegian Government is to strengthen and observe global standards on the rights of girls and women, including changing the preference for sons. ....

As usual, Nvidia had a raft of product announcements ready for its annual GTC conference which started today. Among the standouts were the Grace data centre CPU, a next-generation BlueField DPU, Omniverse Enterprise for 3D collaboration, and updates to the company s Drive platform.
Grace – named after computing pioneer Grace Hopper – is Nvidia s first data centre CPU, designed for extremely large-scale AI and HPC workloads.
Model sizes are doubling every 2.5 months, said Nvidia senior director of accelerated computing Paresh Kharya, pointing to the way the GPT-3 model uses 175 billion parameters. This suggests 100 trillion parameter models will exist by 2023. ....

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Dougherty County School System (DCSS) Superintendent Kenneth Dyer has signaled his intention to hold in-person graduation ceremonies for each of the district’s three high schools in May, according to a release from the school system.
The district canceled in-person graduation last Spring in favor of virtual graduation ceremonies because of Albany’s spike in COVID-19 cases. District leaders believe current COVID-19 case numbers support holding in-person graduation ceremonies, with certain restrictions and safety measures in place, the release states. ....
