Solid Waste District Lands $156,000 State Grant - The Montpelier Bridge

Thanks to a new six-figure grant, the local solid waste management organization can expand hazardous household waste processing. The Vermont Agency of Natural Resources has awarded extra money to the Central Vermont Solid Waste Management District to help create a year-round household hazardous waste collection facility and to purchase a new box truck for hauling materials. 
The Agency’s Department of Environmental Conservation has awarded the waste management district $156,100 from its Solid Waste Management Assistant Fund to manage household hazardous waste in Central Vermont. In February 2020, the conservation department awarded Central Vermont Solid Waste Management District $500,000 for the construction of a new household hazardous waste collection facility. The 2021 grant award increases the district’s total grant funding to $656,100, with $600,000 d ....

MONTPELIER A state commission has found that the Vermont State Police and the Vermont Department of Public Safety illegally discriminated against the African American director of the Clemmons Family Farm based on her race and gender.
In a 5-0 vote in March, the Vermont Human Rights Commission found there were reasonable grounds to believe that troopers violated Vermont’s Fair Housing and Public Accommodations Act in 2017 in their interactions with Lydia Clemmons, the director of the nonprofit center for African American arts, culture and agriculture. ....

David Staples was a first-year biochemistry student at the University of Oxford’s Magdalen College when he entered the world of Freemasonry. Born in south-east London to a working-class family, the young Staples was already trying to make sense of the archaic rituals of the university when he noticed a housemate slipping out twice a term for a clandestine appointment, and returning late in the evening.
Eventually Staples asked where he was going, and was invited to see for himself. A while later he was presented with a date and a time to arrive at the nearest Masonic lodge, with no further instructions. ....
