The reason behind this election is evidence of voting irregularities and fraud. Robert Devaull won the election with 102 votes, Nicholas Holliday had 86 votes. There was a total of 188 ballots cast, including 3 absentee ballots. The investigation leading to the election started after Holliday beat Devaull during the runoff elections last June. ....

The investigation began after Nicholas Holliday beat Robert Devaull during the runoff elections in June of last year. Devaull contested the results three different times, alleging voting irregularities. After an investigation, a judge stated that nearly 138 ballots cast were not handled or processed correctly, and should not have been counted. Sixty-six of those ballots should not have been counted because of issues with absentee voting, while 72 were not properly signed by poll managers at their precinct. ....
