Miscarriages affect far more women (and couples) than we think

One in seven pregnancies worldwide ends in miscarriage and 11% of women endure a failed pregnancy at least once in their lifetime, experts said on April 27 (2021).
Some 23 million miscarriages occur every year, according to data pieced together from around the globe by an international team of 31 researchers.
But the actual tally is sure to be “substantially higher” due to underreporting, they said in a trio of studies published in the journal
The Lancet.
Two percent of women – one in 50 – have experienced two miscarriages, while less that 1% have been through three or more. ....

A new system is needed to ensure miscarriages are better recognized and women are given the physical and mental health care they need, the researchers said in a statement.
This is one of the reproductive problems that gets less attention in the world and it is extremely necessary that a better effort are made to treat it. Each case can have a very hard impact on the woman or the family that suffers it but for some reason it is usually treated as if it could just be ignored to go away on its own. ....
