ATLANTA The pandemic has taken its toll on kids across the country, including in metro Atlanta, but one elementary school is working to help kids deal with it all, by rolling out the yoga mat.
Kids were already dealing with stress anxiety, things like cyberbullying even before the pandemic hit, Dr. Kali Arnold with the Namaste Project told 11Alive. Then the pandemic gave them a whole another set of anxieties.
As a result, Atlanta Public Schools, Beecher Hills Elementary, and the Namaste Project began working together, bringing yoga and meditation to students each week. ....

District focuses on increasing kindergarten readiness

An important part of the Lee County School District’s EnVision 2030 strategic plan increase kindergarten readiness as only 41 percent are prepared for kindergarten– was addressed during a recent school board meeting
The first goal of objective 2 is to increase the percentage of pre-k students identified as prepared for kindergarten to at least 50 percent by June 30, 2021. Board members asked how the district’s 41 percent kindergarten readiness compared across the state.
Superintendent Dr. Greg Adkins said the district is one of the lowest in the state. He said the small rural districts were the ones that scored lower. ....

DESOTO, Texas Tiffany Franklin has a unique perspective when it comes to Santa’s Helpers gifts.
“It s an amazing feeling to (have been) a participant and now to be a giver,” Tiffany said.
When Tiffany s son, Chandler, was around kindergarten-age, she started looking for after-school care.
“My relationship status had changed so of course, the money was tight,” Tiffany said. ....
