BEVERLY HILLS (CNS) - Beverly Hills-based Ticketmaster will pay a $10 million fine to avoid prosecution and resolve criminal charges from the Department of Justice that it hacked into a rival company s computer systems on repeated occasions.
The fine is part of a deferred prosecution agreement Ticketmaster entered into with federal prosecutors in New York over five counts of alleged criminal conduct including charges of computer intrusion, conspiracy and fraud, officials announced late Wednesday.
“Ticketmaster employees repeatedly and illegally accessed a competitor s computers without authorization using stolen passwords to unlawfully collect business intelligence, said Seth D. DuCharme, acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York. ....

Dec. 31 (UPI) Ticketmaster on Wednesday agreed to pay a $10 million fine to settle charges it repeatedly hacked the computer system of a competitor to steal information, according to a statement released by the U.S. Attorney s Office for the Eastern District of New York.
The case resulted from the 2019 guilty plea by Zeehan Zaidi, the former head of Ticketmaster s Artist Services division, to conspiracy to commit computer intrusion and wire fraud. ....

Yesterday, the Department of Justice announced that the event and concert ticket distributor and seller Ticketmaster will pay a $10 million criminal fine for unlawfully accessing a competitorâs computer system. According to the press release, the penalty is a component of a deferred prosecution agreement Ticketmaster and the United States Attorneyâs Office entered into to resolve a five-count criminal information filed on Dec. 30 charging Ticketmaster with computer intrusion and fraud offenses.
According to this weekâs announcement, the âvictim companyâ offered artists the ability to sell presale tickets online and offered a feature known as the âArtist Toolbox,â a password-protected app that provided real-time data about tickets sold through the company. Ticketmaster has agreed to pay a $10 million criminal fine to resolve charges that the company illegally accessed an unnamed competitor s computer system on at least 20 separate occasions, using stolen passwords to conduct a cyber espionage operation.
Ticketmaster employees repeatedly used stolen login credentials to access the competitor s computer system to collect business intelligence from 2013 to 2015, says Acting U.S. Attorney Seth DuCharme for the Eastern District of New York. Ticketmaster has agreed to a $10 million criminal fine after federal prosecutors said the company used illegally-obtained passwords to hack into competitor CrowdSurge’s computer systems in order to hurt their business, according to the Department of Justice and news reports.
The massive fee is part of Ticketmaster’s deferred prosecution agreement to a five-count criminal investigation into computer intrusion and fraud offenses, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office Wednesday.
The case stems from former employee Zeeshan Zaidi, the head of Ticketmaster’s Artist Services division, who in October 2019 pleaded guilty to charges of conspiring to commit computer intrusions and wire fraud in the scheme. Zaidi was the supervisor for Stephen Mead, a former CrowdSurge executive, according to news reports. ....
