ASPEN, CO
.-Marianne Boesky Gallery is presenting Dear Future, an exhibition of new paintings by Antone Könst. The artist’s new group of works capture the emotive impact and uncontainable energy of an indefinite future, shifting his portrayed characters between moments of hope, dread, tension, and humor. Dear Future is on view July 29 – September 12, 2021 on the second floor of the gallery’s space in Aspen.
Könst’s paintings are rooted in figuration, presenting people, animals, and even inanimate objects that are imbued with personified feeling and life. As a starting point for his works, Könst frequently calls back to archetypal and art historical imagery, sourced from studied explorations of classical painting, sculpture, pop culture, and lived experience. The exhibition is interspersed with these references, such as the symbolic and luminous depictions of rising and setting suns that embody the drama of William Blake, or the playful image of a juggler—a nod to Jean-Antoine Watteau’s buffoon paintings. Könst refigures this collage of references to express contemporary conditions, juxtaposing specific facial expressions and body language with ambiguous settings to create a tension between the familiar and the unknown.

'My Whole Body Is Moving With It': Artist Kennedy Yanko on the Performative Nature of Making Sculpture

Kennedy Yanko, 2021. Photograph by Mike Vitelli.
Kennedy Yanko paints and sculpts to a kind of choreography. The Brooklyn-based rising star is known for her evocative and sensual sculptures made from paint skins (essentially, sheaths of latex paint) and manipulated pieces of scrap metal she has hunted down at junkyards across New York City.
Performance is a key element of her work, and Yanko, it’s worth noting, spent three years at the Living Theatre, New York’s oldest experimental theater group, followed by time as a yoga instructor and a bodybuilder while she pursued her artistic practice. All of which is to say that she is highly attuned to the presence of the body and her finished works, which are best described as a product of improvisation, timing, grace, and physical strength.

Derrick Adams's Images of Black Joy Connect with Collectors at Home and Abroad

Artsy
Y-Jean Mun-Delsalle
Derrick Adams,
Esteemed by museums, curators, collectors, and fellow artists alike,
Figure in the Urban Landscape 31 (2019) a double portrait conceived in a
style, with a father and daughter intersected by perpendicular roads on which model cars are mounted for $250,000 at its “Post-War to Present” sale in New York, tripling the artist’s previous auction record. It was the first of his large-scale paintings on panel to appear at auction, but the result, more than double its low estimate, suggests there will be more.
Demand for the series was strong prior to the result at Christie’s, with works from this series on offer in Tilton Gallery’s booth at Art Basel in Miami Beach in 2017 and 2018 finding buyers. They were also the focus of a solo show that opened at the gallery’s Manhattan space in November 2017.

Tilton Gallery opens a solo exhibition of new sculpture by Kennedy Yanko

Kennedy Yanko, Making Light, September 2020. Paint skin, metal, painted wire, 64 x 58 x 21 inches (163 x 147 x 53 cm).
NEW YORK, NY
.-Tilton Gallery is presenting a solo exhibition of new sculpture by Kennedy Yanko, from April 6th to May 15th, 2021.
Kennedy Yanko continues her ongoing investigation into the combination of the seemingly incongruous materials of metal and paint skins to create voluptuous and unexpected sculptural forms. Salvaged metal, crushed or bent into new forms, is juxtaposed with lushly colored soft-appearing paint skins formulated by the artist to flow organically around or through the harder metal forms, at times seeming to pour out of this less pliant element.
