WASHINGTON, May 25, 2021 /PRNewswire/ Today, more than 130 healthcare groups applauded the introduction of the Pharmacy and Medically Underserved Areas Enhancement Act (S. 1362, H.R. 2759), legislation that will ensure that Medicare beneficiaries in medically underserved areas have access to pharmacists primary care services.
In a letter sent to the bill s original sponsors Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA), Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Rep. G.K. Butterfield (D-NC), and Rep. Lonnie Hollingsworth, president of the National Association of Retail Druggists (now NCPA) in 1986-87, passed away Jan. 18 in Lubbock, Texas. He went on to serve as treasurer of the NCPA Foundation Board. Hollingsworth, 88, also served as president of the Texas Pharmacy Association and the West Texas Pharmacists Association, which he helped found. He was named Texas Pharmacist of the year in 1981 and 2001 and served as chairman of the Dean s Advisory Council for the University of Texas School of Pharmacy and served on the Dean s Advisory Council for the Texas Tech University School of Pharmacy. Hollingsworth won the NCPA Foundation’s prestigious John W. Dargavel Medal in 2007. He was a remarkable person, a self-made man who worked his way through college and was valedictorian of his class. He owned L & H Pharmacies in Lubbock. He was a generous man to both pharmacy and philanthropy, said NCPA Foundation Presiden ....

With the current limited supply of COVID-19 vaccines, the Texas Hospital Association said people seeking vaccines should be patient as entities work to inoculate as many willing people as they can.
Carrie Williams is a spokesperson for the Texas Hospital Association, which represents more than 450 hospitals in the state.
“The demand exceeds supply, and there are not doses available at every single hospital,” Williams told NBC 5 Wednesday. “In fact, there are still numerous hospitals mostly in the rural areas of Texas that have not been allocated vaccines yet.”
Just like how every region in Texas is different, Williams said so is every hospital and city. What is uniform is how people should approach accessibility at this point in time, Williams said. ....
