Lancaster County GOP does not vote to censure Sen. Pat Toomey for voting to convict former President Donald Trump

The Republican Committee of Lancaster County did not debate or vote on a proposed resolution to censure U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey for his vote to find former President Donald Trump guilty for inciting the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
Anger about Toomey’s impeachment votes — he joined Democrats in a key vote to allow the trial to proceed and, days later, joined them again to find him guilty — prompted Republican Party officials and rank-and-file GOP voters to urge  a formal rebuke of the two-term senator. Trump was not convicted, as only 57 senators, not the 67 required, voted “guilty” at the trial’s conclusion on Saturday. ....

Lancaster GOP to consider censuring Sen. Pat Toomey for voting to convict Trump in impeachment trial

The Republican Committee of Lancaster County could vote as early as Tuesday night on a motion to censure Sen. Pat Toomey for voting to convict former President Donald Trump in the just-concluded impeachment trial.
Pennsylvania’s junior senator, a Republican first elected in 2010, joined six of his GOP colleagues and all 50 Democrats on Saturday in finding Trump guilty on the single article of impeachment that charged Trump with inciting the Jan. 6 insurrection. The vote fell 10 short of the two-thirds majority needed to convict.
Terry Christopher, the chairman of the Lancaster Township Republicans, said a member of the county committee will make a motion to suspend the organization’s bylaws to permit a vote on the censure motion during the county committee’s endorsement convention Tuesday evening. ....

Lancaster County conservatives ponder what it means to be Republican, direction of the party in post-Trump era

If you ask local Republican committeeman Terry Christopher about the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, he’ll point out that American history is filled with examples of citizens taking the law into their own hands to force change.
“There are absolutely times when violence is appropriate, and it’s not a coincidence that it lines up with a corrupt government ignoring the masses who first called for peaceful solutions,” Christopher, the Lancaster Township area chairman of the Republican Committee of Lancaster County, wrote on the committee’s Facebook page following the attack.
While his opinion is an outlier among local party officials, including the party chairman, his views are reflective of a larger debate happening inside the GOP following the insurrection incited by former President Donald Trump. ....
