Deltona H.S. Teacher Cautioned For Expressing Political Views

Deltona, FL – A Deltona High School digital media teacher received a cautionary letter after he was recorded expressing his personal political views to his journalism students. John Scott, who’s worked for Volusia County Schools (VCS) since August 2011, was cautioned for a discussion about the 2020 election and the Capitol Riot on January 6, 2021. The letter is the first he’s received during his tenure. The Letter of Caution issued by the Volusia County School Board (VCSB) on February 9, 2021: This is to advise that the investigation into the allegation of unprofessional behavior on your part, has concluded with the determination that a preponderance of the evidence does not exist for disciplinary action. Sufficient evidence does exist to issue you this letter of caution for expressing your personal political views during a discussion you held with your journalist students on former President Trump and President Joe Biden. As Cody Holland’s students settle into their seats in his Mainland High School classroom, the teacher gets things started.

Community Healing Project offers teens skills needed after high school

A Daytona Beach group is launching a new program this month aimed at giving teens skills to succeed after high school graduation.
Community Healing Project, a Daytona Beach nonprofit, will launch Project G.O.L.D. on April 19, and is partnering with CareerSource Flagler Volusia, which works to place people in jobs.
“We want this program to give young kids a boost of knowledge so they don’t stumble like a lot of us did,” said Dyrell Johnson, who also is known as Rell Black and is director and founder of Community Healing Project. “The reason we named it that is because it’s a program to help develop students into young adults. We re also going to teach respect, accountability, decision-making skills and conflict resolution.” ....
