Homeowner takes on developer and county over land use and prevails

o get to Edith Disler’s house, drive north on Highway 83 to a paved road that heads west. In short order, the pavement turns into a narrow dirt road that winds up and down over hilly terrain in the woods. The road isn’t maintained by the county. It gets icy and snow packed in winter and muddy in spring rains. Only a few houses, barely visible from the road, dot the area.
It’s exactly the environment Disler wanted when she bought a patch of ground in Black Forest Park subdivision in 1993 while serving in the Air Force and teaching at the Air Force Academy. ....

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has accepted an appeal request from the developer of the proposed Pebble copper and gold mine in Southwest Alaska, keeping alive the company’s hopes that it could one day see the project developed after the Corps denied the project a key permit last year.
The Corps also rejected the state of Alaska’s request for an appeal, prompting a response from Gov. Mike Dunleavy, who said that the rejection sets a precedent that could put other projects on state land at risk. ....

Developer turns part of old Bill Oliver's property into storage units, plans to expand


CADILLAC — From a motel, bowling alley and golf ball driving range to storage units — a lot has happened to the former Bill Oliver’s Resort property in Cadillac West over the last 10 years.
In July, downstate developer and owner of several other properties in Cadillac, Robb Munger, purchased property to the east of Cherry Grove Event Center off M-55.
For years, the property was home to Bill Oliver’s, a Cadillac area mainstay, before being sold and resold again as Cadillac Woods, Best Value and Rodeway Inn. In 2013, Rick Cushman Sr. purchased the property and demolished a portion of it, leaving only the conference center, which was renamed the Cherry Grove Event Center. ....
