Probe of sex abuse in Boy Scouts launched by Michigan attorney general

Boy Scouts of America, which filed for bankruptcy protection a year ago to guard against a flood of sexual-abuse lawsuits, now faces a new public relations problem in Michigan: a criminal investigation.
The state police and attorney general announced Tuesday morning the two law enforcement groups have launched a joint investigation targeting accusations of sex abuse in the Boy Scouts and are asking for tips that may lead to prosecutions.
In response, BSA said it wholeheartedly shares in the Michigan attorney general’s commitment to provide support for survivors, and agreed to share information and cooperate with the investigation. ....

April 19, 2021 Ensuring COVID-19 vaccine access for refugee and displaced populations, and addressing health inequities, is vital for an effective pandemic response. Yet, vaccine allocation and distribution has been neither equitable nor inclusive, despite that global leaders have stressed this as a critical aspect to globally overcoming the pandemic, according to a paper published by Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. As of April 1st, high and upper-middle-income countries received 86 percent of the vaccine doses delivered worldwide, while only 0.1 percent of doses have been delivered in low-income countries. Worldwide, over 80 percent of refugees and nearly all internally displaced persons are hosted by low and middle-income countries - nations at the end of the line for COVID-19 vaccine doses. ....

Quebec makes outdoor mask-wearing mandatory for group activities

Quebecers taking part in group activities outdoors will be required to wear masks in both red and orange zones as of Thursday, a measure the province’s health institute is calling preventive.
Unlike other places in Canada that have sounded the alarm on outdoor COVID-19 transmission, the Institut national de santé publique du Québec (INSPQ) said on Wednesday that an increase has not yet been documented in Quebec.
