By Toni Meek When I was a junior in high school, I took home economics. Near the end of the school term, we were decorating cakes. My parents’ anniversary was in June, so it was the perfect time to make a beautiful anniversary cake for my project. It was going to be heart shaped with cascading roses, with the words “Happy Anniversary.” At least that was my plan. The day we made the cakes, we were given permission to be out of our other classes. We had to be, to have enough time to make the frosting, decorations and cake. I don’t remember too many problems. The cake stuck a little, and was uneven. A little extra frosting and it looked good.

I drove to a busy drive-thru, and it took an hour to order. “A children’s meal with chicken nuggets, and a chocolate milk, four budget burgers, a large fry, and a large Coke,” I said. “$14.66,” they finalized.” Then, I realized I had forgotten to order for myself. I tried to get them back, but they were taking another order, so I drove up to the window. “Can I add another burger?” I asked.

You know that feeling you get when you sit back, especially in a desk chair, and you feel as though you are going to fall backward? Trust that feeling. It means you will fall backward. Oh, once in a while, someone will come along and say, “You can lean back; it just feels like you will fall.” Don’t do it. It’s a trap to make you feel secure. Don’t feel secure. You will fall backward. That’s exactly what happened that morning. I leaned back, felt I was going to fall backyard, then leaned a bit farther, and fell back.
