No doubt much to the chagrin of both Canadians and Americans, it’s not always that easy to differentiate between the two from this side of the pond – especially when it comes to musicians. On the nearest Friday to Canada Day (1 July), this archive collection of BBC archive footage of Canadian pop and rocks stars might throw up a few surprises for British viewers (personally I assumed Joni Mitchell was Californian), while Leonard Cohen, Celine Dion and Justin Bieber are well known to be Canadian. Others featured here include Nelly Furtado, Neil Young, Alanis Morrissette, Avril Lavigne, The Weeknd, Drake, kd lang, Shawn Mendes and Michael Bublé.

ANDREW MAMBO, BYLINE: Hey, everyone. I m Andrew Mambo, one of the producers of the show. Before we get into today s episode, we have a favor to ask. Here on the INVISIBILIA team, we ve been talking about how confusing friendships can be, how it s one of the most important types of relationships we have and yet one of the least clearly defined, so we want your stories about the spoken and unspoken norms of friendship and how you navigate them. Like, have you unlocked the mysteries of making new friends? We want to know about that. Do you have a story about when you failed at friendship? Let us know. Send us an email or voice memo to invisibiliamail@npr.org and you might be featured on the show. OK, now here s the episode. It s technically explicit, but, like, my grandma would approve.

CAPE TOWN - Four African conservation heroes have won awards for their efforts to protect wildlife and natural environments at the UK charity Whitley Fund for Natureâs (WFN) awards.
The Whitley Awards support grass-root conservationists from the global south who are leading impactful projects in their home countries, according to a statement issued by the charity on Thursday.
After an international search, in 2021 they recognised work to safeguard sea turtles (Kenya), southern ground hornbills (South Africa), hooded grebes (Argentina), Lahilleâs bottlenose dolphins (Brazil), bats (Nigeria), Amur falcons (India) and elephants (Kenya).
