Courtesy of Utah Wildfire State and local officials are rescinding fireworks permits, banning activities that could lead to wildfires and vowing to prosecute people who violate restrictions in an effort to hold the line against fire conditions that are more dangerous than normal amid a historic drought. Multiple blazes have cropped up across the state in recent days, including two near Summit County’s borders. Fire officials tell of bone-dry vegetation, high winds and a water shortage that increases the negative impacts of fighting any fire. Summit County Fire Warden Bryce Boyer said on Thursday that the county has been relatively unscathed so far. There weren’t any active fires within the county and hadn’t been any since a few escaped planned burns in April. But he said that could change rapidly, and that the unusually dry weather had pushed fire conditions to levels normally seen in the middle of summer.
Reviewed by Erin Spruce This is the second solo album by Haines, now based is Portugal, having once been a member of the Southampton based Mr E. He has written and produced Seven Stars with the help of Neil Cornish and Tom Fisher and between them they deliver a very high standard album. With its positive, uplifting lyrics and simple but pleasing acoustic arrangements (think Bon Iver with a smidgin of Sufjan Stevens) it is easily understood why this album, like its predecessor But God , is attracting critical plaudits. Haines showcases amazing vocal harmonies that can be heard best on Face Of Flames and Strangers . These two songs especially compliment the tone and quality of his voice. More Of You with its upbeat tempo and easy-to-remember chorus is a great opener while Agape is, for me, the standout song due to the lullaby feel it exudes. The music box sounding piano and marching band snare drum (I lie not!) fits perfectly with the simplicity of the lyrics. Haines decision to put Seven Stars at the end was the right choice. The song builds up right until the last line when the music fades out quickly and Haines almost whispers is his alone . Although it would have been nice to hear one or two songs coming away from the acoustic folk/pop sound, such is the invention shown in the arrangements, the songwriting craft and the warmth and engaging smoothness of Haines voice, this is an album I would recommend to anyone.

Courtesy of Summit County The Summit County Board of Health has chosen Deputy Director Phil Bondurant to fill the Health Department’s top post, opting against a broader candidate search in favor of continuity while the pandemic and its aftereffects linger. Bondurant will succeed retiring Health Director Rich Bullough, whose last day will be Aug. 20. Officials said they would begin a nationwide search immediately for the next deputy director. The health director oversees a department with 32 employees and a nearly $7 million budget. As the local health officer, the director has broad authority to shut down businesses and order quarantines, powers that Bullough exercised during the early months of the pandemic. The director also oversees vast swaths of programming ranging from mental health services to restaurant inspections to air quality monitoring.
