Dating apps could be fined up to $110k if they don't deal with unsafe material

Communications Minister Paul Fletcher has guaranteed that dating apps won’t be banned under a new law aimed at improving online safety, but platforms could face fines of up to $110,000 if they fail to remove abusive material.
The new Online Safety Bill is all about improving online safety, especially for kids, and shutting down things like violent content, image-based abuse and cyberbullying.
Digital rights experts were worried that under the laws, hook up apps such as Grindr or Tinder could be made unavailable for download.
Minister Fletcher said that won’t happen.
“There is no intention to be banning online dating apps, just as there s no intention to be banning social media services,” he told Hack. ....

Vaccinating Tasmanians

Sarah Courtney,Minister for Health
Tasmanians have done a brilliant job working together to help keep on top of COVID and can be reassured that when a GP practice or State Clinic is ready to take bookings, you will know either through your GP or through Tasmanian Government communications.
Unfortunately, incorrect information about participating GP clinics has been released today which has led to unnecessary frustration for both patients and our GPs.
I raised my concerns with the Federal Minister earlier today, and I have been assured the confusion is being addressed, with clarity being provided to GP practices that they may choose to limit vaccinations to only their existing patients, if they wish. ....

Artificial Light Affects Plant Pollination Even During Daytime
Streetlights alter the number of flower visits by insects not just at night, but also during the daytime. Artificial light at night thus indirectly affects the entire plant-pollinator community, with unknown consequences for functioning of the ecosystem, as researchers from the University of Zurich and Agroscope have proven for the first time.

The use of artificial light at night around the world has increased enormously in recent years, causing adverse effects on the survival and reproduction of nocturnal organisms. Artificial light at night interferes with vital ecological processes such as the nighttime pollination of plants by nocturnal insects, which could have consequences for agricultural crop yields and reproduction of wild plants. ....

PRESS RELEASE: The US Patent Office has granted SSH Communications Security Corporation a further patent for PrivX technology

(0)
Helsinki, Finland - March 17, 2021 - The US Patent Office (USPTO) has granted SSH patent number US10951421 that covers the monitoring of connections established using ephemeral certificate-based passwordless access.
The invention enables monitoring of the PrivX connections established using temporary secure certificates. This enables the enterprises to monitor the access and activities performed by PrivX users, and thus helps prevent fraud, provides a clear audit trail, and ensures secure access to critical systems, applications, and data.
Monitoring of the connections and user actions is especially important in regulated industries such as banking and insurance as well as in applications where users are accessing highly sensitive data. The patented invention allows a unique combination of extremely secure passworldless access and monitoring of the encrypted connections previously not possible. ....
