APPROVED: The new Eden Council HQ will be a state of the art development Plans for the new-look headquarters for for Eden District Council in Penrith have gained approval at the third attempt. Eden Council s vision is to transform the Voreda House building on Portland Place into the UK’s first net-zero-carbon retrofit office. The authority’s planning committee had refused to grant approval for the major upgrade of the building in March, however, the proposals were approved six votes to five at a committee meeting this week. The plans will see it become the first building of its kind in the country, as the UK’s first net-zero-carbon retrofit office. The design plans also represent a major upgrade for the site, combining energy saving features with a new look for the building. ....
May 4, 2021 SALEM Memorial Day remembrances in Salem will take place over two days this year, with a wreath-placement ceremony, parade and brief program on May 29 and a service on May 31. Due to the pandemic, there was no procession or parade and only a brief ceremony at Hope Cemetery to mark Memorial Day last year. Councilman Dennis Plegge confirmed Monday that Mayor John Berlin will place a wreath at the veterans’ memorial in front of city hall during a brief ceremony at 9 a.m. Saturday on Memorial Day weekend. A parade will begin at 10 a.m., leaving from city hall on South Broadway Avenue, traveling north to East State Street, then east on State and north on North Lincoln Avenue, ending at Hope Cemetery. ....

Tymal Tarot worked his way into an early two-hole for driver Sylvain Filion while Heaven worked her way to the lead and supplied the field with an opening quarter of :27.3. Filion promptly hustled his charge past that foe when the group hit the backstretch, but Tymal Tarot was then overtaken by Tymal Riggs. The new leader carved out middle fractions of :57.3 and 1:27.1 before being confronted in the lane by the re-rallying Tymal Tarot. He used a :29-second closing quarter to win by three-quarters of a length over HP Starlette. Tymal Riggs was third. ....
