WASHINGTON (WAFB) - Major congratulations are in order for two Louisiana high school students, as they were named 2021 US Presidential Scholars, one of the nation’s highest honors for high school students.
Ju-Woo Nho is a senior at Baton Rouge Magnet High School and Eric Jones is a senior at Destrehan High School in St. Rose.
“The 2021 Presidential Scholars represent extraordinary achievements for our extraordinary times,” said US Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona. â€œI am delighted to join President Biden in saluting these outstanding young people for their achievements, service, character, and continued pursuit of excellence. Their examples make me proud and hopeful about the future. ....

Two Louisiana students named 2021 U.S. Presidential Scholars


Two Louisiana students have garnered national attention for their educational achievements.
A Thursday morning news release from the U.S. Department of Education announced that Louisiana-based students, Ju-Woo Nho of Baton Rouge Magnet High School and Eric Jaron Jones of Destrehan High School are among the 161 high school seniors who comprise the 57th class of U.S. Presidential Scholars.
U.S. Secretary of Education Dr. Miguel Cardona had the privilege of making this announcement, Thursday. The high school seniors are being honored for their success in academics, the arts and career and technical education fields.
Dr. Cardona said, “The 2021 Presidential Scholars represent extraordinary achievements for our extraordinary times. ....

BATON ROUGE - High school students 16 and older will have an opportunity to get a free Pfizer vaccine with the consent of their parent or guardian.

Two Baton Rouge public high schools make Louisiana’s top 10

Liberty Magnet High School (formerly Lee High School) and Baton Rouge Magnet High School, both part of the EBR Parish school system, were ranked No. 8 and No. 6 in the state, respectively. As usual, Benjamin Franklin High School in New Orleans came in at No. 1. Just two Louisiana schools were ranked in the nation’s top 100—Benjamin Franklin and Patrick F. Taylor Science and Technology Academy in Westwego. 
Zachary High School and the LSU Laboratory School made the state’s top 20, according to the list.
