Sri Lanka- Cops grill ITAK MP who took part in protest

MP Rasamanickam said he offered an explanation on the P2P demonstration to officers from six Police stations.
He said the statements were recorded at his office by officers from the Muthur, Kattankudy, Kilinochchi, Mankulam, Valaichenai, and Samanthurai Police stations.
The ITAK MP said the officers had inquired about the P2P demonstration.
A demonstration was launched in Pottuvil on 03rd February demanding justice for the Tamil speaking people.
The three-day demonstration was carried out from Pottuvil to Polikandy jointly by Tamil political parties, civil organisations, and civil society members, and concluded on 06th February.
Tamil National Alliance (TNA) MP M.A. Sumanthiran had said earlier that the demonstration was conducted to raise awareness on the Government s continuous restrictions imposed on the minorities, illegal acquirement of lands belonging to the people in the North and East, urging the release of Tamil political prisoners, and to protest all ....

Ayyasamy endures shin pain to win 400m hurdles, eyes Olympics

New Delhi, Feb 18 (IANS) Tamil Nadu s 400 metre hurdles national record holder Dharun Ayyasamy endured pain of shinbone stress fracture to win the 400 metre hurdles title in the inaugural Indian Grand Prix (IGP) athletics at Patiala s National Institute of Sports (NIS) on Thursday.
Ayyasamy s winning time of 51.33 seconds though was far slower than the this year s Olympic Games qualification time of 48.90 seconds.
Aftab Alam of Uttar Pradesh finished second in 51.56 sec while K Sathish of Tamil Nadu was third with 52.12 sec.
The 24-year-old athlete, who won silver at the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games in the same event, exuded confidence of improving his time in the coming weeks. ....

IIIT-H builds multi-lingual speech recognition system - The Hindu BusinessLine

The system’s use cases include call centres and e-commerce platforms
One of the biggest challenges that call centres face in the country is people using more than one language in conversations. Though speech recognition solutions are available, they are mostly language-specific, making it difficult to identify, transcribe and analyse the data.
Researchers at the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT-H) have found a workable solution to this problem.
They have come up with a common Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) system for six Indian languages. The multi-lingual system will hit the market by August 2021, according to Anil Kumar Vuppala, a Professor at IIIT-H who led the research team. ....

Washington [US], February 17 (ANI): The much-awaited film Tom and Jerry is slated to release in four languages on February 19 in India.
Warner Bros. shared the news on Twitter along with a teaser clip from the movie. They noted that the forthcoming film will be released in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.
