Detra Farries granted parole decade after killing of Colorado Springs tow truck driver
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) Detra Farries has been granted parole nearly a decade after she dragged and killed a tow truck driver who was trying to tow her SUV.
The 4th Judicial District Attorney s Office confirmed to KRDO on Monday that Farries has been granted parole. Farries was convicted of reckless manslaughter and sentenced to 20 years in prison for the killing, which occurred in Feb. 2011.
We are not in agreement with the recent decision. This was a horrific tragedy in which a family lost a father and a husband, said Howard Black, 4th Judicial District Spokesperson. ....

What started out as an investigation into inmate deaths in some of California’s county jails led to an audit that uncovered severe overcrowding, a lack of mental health resources and $8 billion in State funds for which three county Sherriff offices cannot properly account.
“What’s happening right now in these counties is not only unjust, but a disservice to our communities,” said Sen. Sydney Kamlager (D-Los Angeles).
“It’s more than just about housing people. The sheriff’s departments have a duty to provide care and to rehabilitate those individuals who walk through their doors. That simply is not happening, while billions of dollars are being left on the table,” she said. ....

The El Paso County Board of Commissioners needs a citizen volunteer to serve on the El Paso County Community Corrections Board. Applications for the open position are due by Jan. 18, 2021.Â Â
The Community Corrections Board determines which offenders can safely be placed in the community, who can operate a community corrections program, under what conditions an offender can participate in a program, and the standards by which a service provider can operate a facility.Â Â
The board also monitors programs in the Fourth Judicial District, oversees compliance with state and local standards, recommends contracts and reception of grants, and advises the El Paso County Board of Commissioners on work release and other community corrections matters in the Fourth Judicial District. ....
