MEDITERRANEAN SEA The Legend-class national security USCGC Hamilton (WMSL 753) transited out of the Mediterranean Sea, concluding the crew’s recent operations in the U.S. Navy Sixth Fleet’s area of responsibility, May 24, 2021.
Hamilton entered the Mediterranean Sea on April 15 and the Black Sea on April 27 to support NATO Allies and partners. Hamilton was the first U.S. Coast Guard Cutter to visit the Black Sea since 2008. The last U.S. Coast Guard cutter to visit the Black Sea was USCGC Dallas (WHEC 716) and sailed to the Black Sea twice, in 2008 and 1995.
Since leaving the Black Sea on May 14, Hamilton’s crew visited Valletta, Malta, and conducted engagements at sea with the armed forces of Malta. They also conducted a brief logistics stop in Rota, Spain, on May 23.

MEDITERRANEAN SEA  The Legend-class national security cutter USCGC Hamilton (WMSL 753) conducted at sea engagements with the armed forces of Malta in the Mediterranean Sea, May 17 and 20, 2021.
“Malta is one of our strongest maritime partners in the Mediterranean,” said Capt. Timothy Cronin, commanding officer of Hamilton. “It was an honor to work alongside the armed forces of Malta and help them prepare for helicopter operations on their first flight deck equipped vessel. By working together during events such as this, we demonstrate our shared commitment to maritime safety and security, which all nations depend on today.”
U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Gwendolyn S. Green was delighted to welcome the USCGC Hamilton captain and crew to Malta’s magnificent Grand Harbor.

MEDITERRANEAN SEA The Legend-class national security cutter USCGC Hamilton (WMSL 753) is conducting a port visit in Valletta, Malta, May 17-20, 2021, following at sea engagements with the armed forces of Malta in the Mediterranean Sea.
This port visit marks the fifth stop while conducting operations in U.S. Sixth Fleet, following Spain, Italy, Georgia, and Ukraine. During the stop in Valletta, the crew engaged with Malta government dignitaries, armed forces of Malta leadership, and other military personnel.
“Hamilton was welcomed to Valletta with open arms,” said Capt. Timothy Cronin, commanding officer of Hamilton. “The reception we received is evidence of the strong friendship we have with Malta and its people. Our visit represents America’s commitment to enhancing Malta’s maritime capabilities.”

BLACK SEA The Legend-class national security cutter USCGC Hamilton (WMSL 753) transited from the Black Sea to the Mediterranean Sea, concluding the crew’s recent Black Sea operations and engagements, May 14, 2021.
Hamilton entered the Black Sea on April 27, 2021, in support of NATO Allies and partners. Hamilton is the first U.S. Coast Guard cutter to visit the Black Sea since 2008. BLACK SEA The Legend-class national security cutter USCGC Hamilton (WMSL 753) conducted at sea engagements with Romanian navy frigate Mărășești (F111) and Bulgarian corvette Bodri (BGS 14) in the Black Sea, May 13, 2021.
“Working alongside the Romanian and Bulgarian navies was invaluable,” said Capt. Timothy Cronin, commanding officer of Hamilton. “These exercises strengthen the United States relationship with our NATO allies and reinforces our commitment to ensuring freedom of movement within international waters for all nations in the Black Sea.”
The vessels executed passing and communications exercises and flight operations with the Hamilton’s MH-65 Dolphin helicopter detachment aircrew.
“Conducting hoisting operations with other navies is an amazing experience,” said Petty Officer 3rd Class Nick Mauricio. “There is a practicality to it, but being lowered onto their deck also allows for genuine face-to-face interaction that helps cement the friendship between our nations.”
