FORT GIBSON â Cherokee Nation leaders on April 23 joined county commissioners from Muskogee and Cherokee counties to cut the ribbon on a $6.3 million road and bridge project near Fort Gibson. Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr., Deputy Chief Bryan Warner, Secretary of State Tina Glory-Jordan, Chief of Staff Todd Enlow, as well as Tribal Councilors Dr. Mike Dobbins and Rex Jordan met with Muskogee County Commissioner Ken Doke and Cherokee County Commissioner Chris Jenkins to celebrate the projectâs completion. âThis project is another example of how vital community partnerships are for Cherokee citizens. BARON â Cherokee Nation officials celebrated Earth Week on April 22 with a visit to the Mid County Community Organization building in Adair County, where new rooftop solar panels were installed as part of Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr.âs $30 million Housing, Jobs and Sustainable Communities Act passed by the Tribal Council in 2019. The solar panels will lower utility costs and provide an eco-friendly energy source for the Cherokee community organization. Hoskin, Deputy Chief Bryan Warner, Natural Resources Secretary Chad Harsha, Chief of Staff Todd Enlow and Veterans Affairs Secretary S. Joe Crittenden unveiled the solar panels after signing an Earth Day proclamation detailing many of the tribeâs efforts to reduce its carbon footprint. ....

BELFONTE â Cherokee Nation officials on Feb. 24 joined Rural Communities Initiative Foundation leaders to cut the ribbon on the new Sallie Byrd Sevenstar Community Building in Sequoyah County.  The center is named in honor of CN citizen and fluent Cherokee speaker Sallie Byrd Sevenstar, who died in August, states a CN release. According to the release, Sevenstar was a lifelong Nicut resident. It also states that she was a retired teacher of more than 30 years and a Belfonte Baptist Church member for more than 50 years, where she taught Sunday school and led singing. She was also the first bilingual Cherokee speaker to receive a bachelorâs and a masterâs degree from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, according to the release. ....
