CHARLOTTE A new warning from Mecklenburg County health leaders. The highly contagious Delta Variant is now showing up across Mecklenburg County. This comes as the number of people getting infected with Covid-19 is rising again.
Mecklenburg County health leaders are also concerned after an outbreak of the Delta Variant at a local shelter.
“All of our numbers are going in the wrong direction,” says Public Health Director, Gibbie Harris.
“Unfortunately, our 7 day average of cases was just reported this morning at 92, that’s an increase since the 14 day average of 74, so our number of cases is going up,” she says. ....

Northern Region Health Directorate to begin Malaria chemopreventive therapy

The Northern Region Health Directorate will between June and July this year begin administering the Malaria Kimo preventive therapy for children under five in the region.
According to the Directorate, about 60 per cent of malaria cases recorded in the region usually are children hence the target group for the Malaria Kimo treatment.
The Deputy Public Health Director, Dr Hilarious Abewu in an interview with Joy News said the idea is that if a child gets treated for malaria today and the next day he or she gets bitten by a mosquito they can contract malaria.
But if they are treating the children after every four weeks it’s unlikely that the child will retrogress to have malaria. ....

“It’s no surprise I would be surprised if the U.K. strain isn’t already here in Monroe County, so my advice is, it’s here. It’s no surprise, we just have to take our precautions.
