A yearslong effort to rebuild the only church destroyed during the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks in New York City has raised over $95 million.  
St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and National Shrine, originally founded in 1916, suffered heavy damage during the 9/11 attacks that killed 2,606 people at the World Trade Center and wounded over 6,000 others. 
The Friends of Saint Nicholas, a group founded in 2019 to help the church, announced last week that the project has raised $95 million, with over $55 million being raised since January 2020. Over $8.5 million has been raised in the last two months.  ....

Non-Profit Organization Has Raised $8.5M in the Past Two Months, Including Twenty-Five $100K Donations
New York, NY – June 2, 2021 – Yesterday, His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros met with The Friends of St. Nicholas, the non-profit organization formed to complete the construction of the Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and National Shrine. At the meeting, it was revealed that recent vigorous donation activity has brought the total of the fundraising on behalf of the Shrine to $95 million. Funding has accelerated over the past year, with $55 million raised since January 2020 and $8.5 million in the past two months alone. Twenty-five of those recent donors each contributed $100,000. ....

Today, we celebrate the Holy Myrrh-Bearing women, who are always led by that symbol of courage and dedication, Saint Mary Magdalene. But there were others as well, such as: Mary, the mother of Joses and Iakovos; Mary, the wife of Cleopas; Joanna, the wife of Chuza; Salome, the mother of the Apostles Iakovos and John the Evangelist; Susanna; and, of course, Nikodemos and Joseph of Arimathea. These were the devoted followers of the Lord, who braved public scorn and real physical danger in order to prepare His Divine Body for burial. ....

Beloved Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
We are fast approaching Great and Holy Week and the Glorious Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Our annual commemoration of this last week in His earthly life is filled with pain, with suffering, with remorse, and with unspeakable love and sacrifice. And when this Week of weeks is over, we pass over to the ineffable joy of Pascha.
But what is a week in the liturgical life of the Church has reached almost twenty years when it comes to the Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and National Shrine. The aftermath of September Eleventh was filled with loss, pain, grief, and too many tears for the surviving families, for their friends and neighbors, for our Nation, and for the world. The Church of Saint Nicholas suffered for many years, as we struggled to find the way forward in order to rebuild. Just as Holy Week was no easy road for the Lord, the last twenty years have not been an easy road for Saint Nicholas. Yet now, after so much s ....
