The number of active cases of COVID-19 among Dawson County residents is now down to four.
That’s as of this past Thursday, according to the latest information available on the South Plains Public Health District (SPPHD) website.
The district reported that one new case has been confirmed here during the past few days, bring-ing Dawson County’s total COVID case count to 1,716 since March of last year.
No new deaths from COVID-19 have been reported here in almost a month.
The death toll reported by the Texas Department of State Health Services remains at 68, while SPPHD continues to report 34 deaths here. Fatality . ....

Communities across the South Plains are beginning to receive shipments of the COVID-19 vaccines, and are hosting clinics with the resources they have available.
Tim Pierce, executive director of the South Plains Association of Government, says it s a unique undertaking for everyone he said it s like building an airplane as you re flying it.
To give out second doses, the Crosby County Pioneer Memorial Museum has been transformed into a vaccine clinic for the weekend. Why the museum? Because the museum s auditorium is the largest room in Crosbyton.
Debra Miller is the administrator at the Crosbyton Clinic Hospital. The two-bed hospital received about 1,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine for the first time last month. ....

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Some county officials from within the South Plains Public Health District are planning to bring their voices together with a goal of getting the attention of state officials deciding where COVID-19 vaccines are sent.
“We just had a Zoom call with some other surrounding county officials, working towards maybe joining together so that we can serve more of the people in our South Plains, west Texas community,” Executive Director Zachary Holbrooks said. “A bit more voices sometimes move that needle a little bit, as far as receiving vaccines for these rural counties. If you’re a rural county, you’ve got to fight for everything. You don’t want to be forgotten ....
